3 BOOKS EVERY A-LEVEL BIOLOGY STUDENT NEEDS 📚
Jul 05, 2023If you’re currently doing your A-levels, there’s a high chance you don’t want to add any more reading onto the workload pile you already have to do for school. However, trust me when I say these books are worth your while! These books help you stay motivated, give you tips on the actions to take to help work towards your goals, and of course teach you about biology!
The top three books I recommend to all biology students looking to score an A* on their A-Levels are:
- The Only Study Guide You’ll Ever Need by Jade Bowler
- Atomic Habits by James Clear,
- Practical Biology by Jo Ormishe
To help you figure out which book is right for you, though I highly recommend all 3, here is a small review of what each book is about:
THE ONLY STUDY GUIDE YOU’LL EVER NEED BY JADE BOWLER

The Only Study Guide You’ll Ever Need was written by YouTuber Jade Bowler. Jade’s content consists of popular videos that focus on school life through the lens of her personal experience being a young person in the British education system. She wrote her novel at the age of 21, and provides different study techniques, advice on how to stay motivated, how to make a timetable, and how to deal with the difficult mental stress during this time period.
This novel is great for students looking for practical tips on how to do well on their A-levels, especially if they resonate well with people their own age. Having taken her A-levels not too long ago, Jade’s advice is very accurate and topical to students who are going through their A-levels at present!
ATOMIC HABITS BY JAMES CLEAR

Atomic Habits, while not being strictly about Biology, is a great book to help you achieve your goals. As the title suggests, Atomic Habits focuses on habitual practices that we make throughout our lives that can both benefit and harm us.
This book is great for helping build a framework for successful lifestyle changes that will keep you motivated throughout the school year to achieve whatever your goal may be. The book is easy to read and keeps you engaged through drawing on the experiences of others to further prove that making small changes leads to large changes.
This book is great if you’re interested in not just getting a top grade in your A-Levels, but improving in all areas of your life!
PRACTICAL BIOLOGY BY JO ORMISHER

Practical Biology by Jo Ormisher contains tons of topical information to help you achieve that A* in Biology! Great for practicals, this book includes extensive guides as well as possible exam questions. Written by an experienced teacher, it helps students better understand course materials; this book covers practical work, the specification, methodology, maths and more. It helps students develop their skills, and furthers their knowledge to help them achieve a strong grade. Practical Biology is concise, clear, and extremely helpful when it comes to learning Biology.
If you’re focusing less on your habits, and more on furthering your understanding of the course materials, this is definitely the book for you.
DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING TO ACHIEVE IN YOUR A-LEVELS, EACH ONE OF THESE BOOKS OFFERS A DIFFERENT HELPFUL INSIGHT TO GET YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO BE.
